The Emerald Equestrian Complex, located in the Klin region of Russia, is a functional division into six blocks, each with stables, arenas, and a central administrative block that serves as the connecting core for all buildings. The extended facades of the arenas and stables are directed towards the central composite core, creating a six-sided structure that resembles a precious emerald resting in a golden setting. The design of the complex reflects its functionality, with the structure of the complex mirroring the logistics of horse technology.
The design of the Emerald Equestrian Complex is unique in its use of environmentally friendly materials and large-span glued wooden structures. The main construction material is wood, chosen for its environmental friendliness. The complex's design is non-repeating, with each of the six blocks having a unique design. The central administrative block makes maximum use of the wooden material in its main load-bearing structures, facade ornament, and decorative elements.
The complex is part of a larger recreational complex with an area of more than 200 ha. It caters to both professional athletes and casual visitors, including families with children and people with disabilities. The logistics of the space have been carefully developed, with separate movement paths for humans and animals, and movement on the territory restricted to foot or electric cars.
The design of the Emerald Equestrian Complex was inspired by the urban design structure of the territory and the crystal lattice of a gem. The complex's structure is similar to a crystal lattice, enlarged by billions of times. This design element is reflected in the complex's facades, which are decorated with a scattering of bright pieces of glass that create a kaleidoscope effect when approached.
The Emerald Equestrian Complex project started in October 2017 in Moscow, Russia, and construction began in December 2018. The design of the complex was informed by a detailed study of the landscape and climatic conditions of the design region. This research allowed for the use of technologies and materials that achieve greater energy efficiency in the building. The complex's dismembered structure also allows for the use of separate buildings for other events.
In conclusion, Polina Nozdracheva's Emerald Equestrian Complex is a unique and innovative design that marries functionality with aesthetics in a sustainable structure. The complex's design reflects its functionality, with the structure of the complex mirroring the logistics of horse technology. The design has been recognized with the prestigious Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2020, a testament to its excellence in design.
